The History of Material: Notes on the Creation of Form

Dunes Cover.jpg

The sand dunes in the protected park at the tip of the St. Joseph peninsula were known as the largest on Florida’s panhandle. A construction of sand, plants and beach detritus, the dunes served as protection for the plant and animal ecologies behind them. When Hurricane Michael came ashore on October 10th, 2018 it severely undermined the dunes, first with extremely high tides followed by a storm surge and powerful winds. The ecologies behind the dunes were inundated with salt water and further damaged by overturned trees. Now, eight years later, the dune are slowly reforming.

Nature reassembles itself through time.
